Alan Bright, a tutor with Chess in Schools and Communities, who directed the tournament said: “It was good to welcome for the first time a team from Calverton to the Ellen Wilkinson invitational tournament and the girls’ silver medals were fully deserved.”
Stefania was unbeaten on 4.5/5, which won her a medal for the highest score by a nine-year old.
The were 39 competitors in total from Gallions, Grangewood, Hartley, Ravenscroft and St Joachim schools as well as Calverton and Ellen Wilkinson
Just before Christmas Kata and Stefania had the opportunity to play Magnus Carlsen, the world champion, at an event at the toy shop, Hamleys.
