Calverton’s aim is to ensure that all children leave primary school with a strong grasp of mathematical knowledge, ensuring that they are:
fluent in using four operations of calculation
able to explain their reasoning verbally and in writing
able to apply their knowledge in problem solving
At Calverton, these skills are taught daily in Maths lessons and developed through challenge and opportunity within our school.
We are committed to providing those that find maths a challenge with the relevant support and scaffolding to help them to succeed. We ensure that we provide intervention sessions to those who have gaps in their knowledge or are having difficulty with particular concepts. It is our aim that every child reaches their full potential.
We strive to ensure that children recognise the importance of Maths in their lives both within their education and into adulthood. We want children to appreciate the impact that good mathematical skills can have on their future in a wide range of contexts. We hope that we will foster a curiosity and passion to enjoy the subject and appreciate that even the most challenging mathematical tasks can be fun.
