KS2 pupils were involved in a dance workshop with Andy Instone from the street dance group URBAN STRIDES on Friday 21st November 2014.
Andy is part of the Creative Team for the Young Voices Concerts we take part in every year at the O2 Arena. We were incredibly fortunate to have him work with us as his time is very limited and he usually works with KS3 and 4 children in secondary settings. Calverton children had an incredible day throwing some shapes with Andy who ran dance sessions for each year group in KS2 with a focus on high expectations within dance, and self discipline.
The day culminated with an inspirational assembly where he shared his own experiences with the children and delivered the idea that we should never give up on our desires, and to always strive for our goal. He reiterated the message of 'not settling for second best' and to take immediate positive action to achieve, both in and out of school.
At the end of the day, Andy was very complimentary about the children's abilities and performance skills which had been demonstrated during the workshops, in addition, he remarked on the welcoming culture of the school that he witnessed during his visit to Calverton.
Our children commented positively on their experience and thoroughly enjoyed their day. Some of them will be dancing along with Andy again at the Young Voices concert on 30th January 2015 as well as thousands of other children; we wait with anticipation for that day to arrive!
