On 2nd of November 12 children from Year 5 were chosen to take part in The Brilliant Club, whose aim is to increase the number of pupils progressing to highly selective universities.
They travelled to Sussex University where the children met with their PHD tutor, who will be visiting them weekly in school. The children also took part in a study skills sessions, were given a tour of the university campus and had the opportunity to meet current students and ask various questions about university life.
Over the course of 6 weeks the children will take part in tutorials and discuss issues relating to the topic of poverty. They will write a 1000 word essay, which will be graded by their PHD tutor. The programme will conclude with a graduation ceremony, which will be held at another prestigious university.
