Pupil Premium & Sports Premium

Calverton Primary School > About Us > Pupil Premium & Sports Premium

Background

The pupil premium targets extra funding for pupils from deprived backgrounds. Research shows these students underachieve compared to their non-deprived peers. The premium is provided in order to support these pupils to reach their potential.

The Government have used pupils entitled to free school meals (FSM), children of service personnel and children looked after as an indicator for deprivation and have deployed a fixed amount of money to schools per pupil, based upon the number registered for FSM. At Calverton Primary School, we will be using the indicator of those eligible for FSM as our target children to ‘diminish the difference’ regarding attainment and progress.

Pupil Premium Strategy

PE & SPORTS PREMIUM FUNDING

Primary PE and Sport Premium is an initiative that aims to help increase and improve the PE and sporting opportunities for children. It was first provided in the 2013/14 academic year and the current government has pledged to continue this funding until 2021.

PE and Sport Premium funding is provided jointly by the Department for Education, the Department for Health and Culture and the Department for Media and Sport. It has been allocated to primary school headteachers and is ring-fenced, meaning that it can only be spent on the provision of PE and sport in schools.

Calverton Primary School receives a Pupil Premium Grant for each child who is entitled to receive Free School Meals or for any Looked After Children.

We are required to publish online information about how we have used the premium.

Impact

The additional provision ensures that our most vulnerable children are well provided for and receive high-quality support to help them achieve their personal best. The high standards we see in the pupils’ work and SATs results demonstrates the impact that the funding has on achievement and progress.

It is evident that these children, with the additional support and resources, are becoming more confident individuals who have increased confidence and are more willing to apply themselves during lessons.

Sports and Pupil Premium spending is key to promote well-being and has provided a number of vulnerable children with the opportunity to succeed.
